Setting Weekly Goals: A Step-by-Step Success Strategy
Setting Weekly Goals: A Step-by-Step Success Strategy
Setting Weekly Goals: A Step-by-Step Success Strategy
Setting goals might seem like another task for your to-do list, but you don’t have to think of your goals as another commitment that’s just going to set you up and then stress you out. Goals are personal milestones that help you prioritize and even reevaluate your interests and your progress, keeping you on track so that you feel motivated and connected to your dreams in a real, practical way. If your goal-setting techniques in the past have left you feeling too overwhelmed or like you’re a big fat failure, stop thinking about goals in terms of overblown, unrealistic ideas like “become CEO” or “graduate with 3 majors and honors.” Think about what you really, truly want out of life, in the short-term and long-term. It could be anything from getting into shape to learning how to organize your desk better. Then, work backwards by creating sub-goals or check points that will keep you on track and help you see your progress exponentially.

10 Valuable Life & Business Lessons You Can Learn from Bees
Bees are more smart than scary, and instead of wasting time running away from them, we should start studying them. Their life and business lessons rival the strategies taught at some of the best colleges out there, so check out this list of 10 skills you can learn from bees.
They’re expert communicators: Bees triangulate distances and direction, and are in continuous contact with their hives as they search for food sources. They’re not off "hunting" for themselves; instead, bees never seem to break contact with the group and keep each other informed to stay alive and recruit other bees to help them collect pollen where it’s most plentiful. Can you imagine if there were no secret stashes or ulterior motives in business?
Bees are associative learners: Bees never stop learning and use natural forces to direct their actions in terms of finding food and monitoring the environment. They continue to visit the types of flowers that consistently offer them rewards, noting color and odor, and then effectively ditch them if weather patterns or other elements make the reward harder to obtain in search of other flowers. If we could learn as quickly, and then let go of past processes in order to move forward, we’d be profit-making machines, no exceptions.

Scoring a Sports Scholarship
Scoring an athletic scholarship is a great way to experience college for many student athletes. You’ll get a free (or at least discounted) ride to college, and you can play a sport that you love while you’re doing it. Of course, sports scholarships don’t always come easy, and you will almost certainly have to work hard to get one. These are a few of the things you can do to earn your athletic scholarship.

Participate in a college sport. If you want to get in to college based on your athletic ability, you’ll have to be a part of a sport that’s not only played in college, but valued by colleges. Common scholarship sports include baseball, basketball, football, and cross country. If you have a particular school in mind, find out which sports earn the most scholarships and focus on doing well in one or a few of them to increase your chances.

Preventing Dating Violence in College Starts With You
For most students, dating while in college will be a fun experience, filled with new and exciting relationships, some of which may blossom into love and even marriage. Unfortunately, that isn’t true for every college relationship experience, as some turn sour and can result in violence and abuse. Think this kind of abuse can’t take place on your college campus? The National Center for Victims of Crime reports that a whopping 32% of college students report dating violence from a partner and 21% from a person they’re dating right now. Dating violence in college is a very real phenomenon and one that you can help fight against as a student.

Start by making sure that you’re safe in your own dating endeavors. Never go to a person’s apartment or a private place on a first date. Additionally, always keep your drinking in check and never become so intoxicated that you black out or are unable to make conscious decisions. It can be incredibly dangerous not only for your health but in terms of allowing others to take advantage of your state. If you ever feel physically or mentally threatened by a person you are dating, stop seeing them. They may promise it will never happen again, but nine times out of ten, it will. Find a safe place to go, get help from friends and use campus resources to help you.
Plugging Away while Unemployed

Plugging Away while Unemployed
It is important to stay as productive as possible while unemployed and this does not always solely imply job searching. While this can be a full-time job, it is also essential to keep your skills sharp in any other ways possible, even if it’s not a paying job. Ways to do this can include volunteering or succumbing to working part-time, even if you need the full-time hours. Either option will at least fill the gap on your resume while you are job-hunting, as well as keeping busy and hopefully keeping up with your skill set.

If you are an accountant, this could mean offering to do someone’s books free of charge in exchange for some time in the office, getting out of the house, showing a company your earnest work ethic despite lack of pay. Hopefully it will turn into a job down the road if anything opens up.

You’ve Sent Your Resume — Now What?
Many job applicants feel like they have done all they can once they submit their resume. Sadly, this is not enough to secure the job being pursued. In today’s difficult job market, finding a job has really become a numbers game. There are more people searching for fewer available jobs. The math is simple and the results are devastating to new college graduates. They wind up flooding an already overcrowded pool of applicants. Therefore, simply sending your resume to a company is hardly going to put you in the position to be hired for your desired position. Sending your resume is just the first step.

You should follow up with someone in the human resources department within two days to make sure that your resume has been received. Don’t feel like you’re being too overbearing by following up so soon after you have sent in your resume. There are so many channels by which to submit your resumes these days that an HR representative will understand that you’re nervous whether your resume has been received. Start by sending an email and then escalate to making a phone call to follow up on your status.
The Five-Year Reunion
The Five-Year Reunion
The Five-Year Reunion
The first big reunion that graduating classes have is after five years. There are usually two camps on this issue. There are grads that look forward to reconnecting with old friends and catching up on how everyone is doing. On the other hand, there are people that have put college behind them and could not care any less about seeing random people they barely knew five years ago. However, statistics show the five-year reunion usually yields the highest turnout of returning graduates to campus.

If you are planning on attending this reunion, make sure you reach out to your closest friends from college and make sure that they are going to attend, as well. It would be torture if you showed up at your reunion and had no friends to serve as your safety net. Your close group of friends provides a constant place to return to if you get caught up in a conversation with someone you don’t care to catch up with. Also, you can make arrangements to stay with your friends by splitting a hotel with them. Even though the reunion is designed to bring together people you may not stay in touch with, you need to have your close-knit group with you.
